Cheap Engagement Rings Under £50
Is it really possible to pick up a reasonable looking engagement ring for less than £50? You certainly won't get a huge diamond ring for that money, but if you are on a very tight budget then there are options, including a tiny diamond ring, alternative gemstones and second hand jewellery.
We've looked at four retailers to see what kind of engagement ring you can get for 50 pounds in the UK. |
1. Amazon
With a bit of searching, I managed to find a couple of engagement rings containing a tiny bit of diamond under £50 at Amazon. The option was limited further as it was only a certain sized ring which was within budget (the same ring in most other sizes was about £75). The diamonds were only 0.04 and 0.05 carat, which is tiny (I decided 0.25 carat was the smallest I wanted to consider when I was buying a diamond ring), but you can in all honesty call it a diamond ring.
If the world's tiniest diamond doesn't appeal, then you might prefer an alternative such as a Zirconia engagement ring. You can pick up something which resembles a large diamond and gives a nice sparkle for as little as £20 from Amazon.

Alternatively, you can ignore the marketing traditions and buy an alternative gemstone such as a Blue sapphire, Green emerald or Red ruby for less than £50 at Amazon.

2. eBay
If you are willing to buy a second hand engagement ring then your money will go a lot further. For £50, you won't pick up a hugely valuable diamond ring, but you might get something which originally sold for a couple of hundred pounds. If you're happy to settle for an engagement ring without an original receipt or grading certificate then you will find prices are at their lowest. Of course, that's putting a lot of trust in the buyer but eBay does have a reviews and ratings system which is well established.
eBay also has excellent filtering tools so you can quickly narrow your options down from the tens of thousands of rings which you will originally be faced with (start by clicking on 'used') and then set a maximum price.
You will often find that sellers of the very cheapest diamond rings on eBay don't actually know the carat of the ring they are selling, so you might consider a trip to the jewellers first to get an idea of scale.

3. Hot Diamonds
Hot Diamonds has a small but tasteful selection of cheap diamond rings around the £50 price mark. The diamonds are (needless to say) very small, and they don't have the look of a classic solitaire diamond ring. I get the impression that they are really designed as jewellery for special occasions, but it's certainly worth considering if you want something a bit different for your engagement ring but still want the tradition of a diamond.
4. John Greed Jewellery
John Greed Jewellery is a good place to look if you are willing to veer from traditional styles of engagement rings. For a budget of £50 you will be able to find a Cubic Zirconia ring or a 'birthstone' ring. There are frequently discount codes and vouchers, although you do need to spend £50 to get free delivery.
